SONGTHAEW

Songthaew pickup truck shared taxis are the main choice when travelling up from Mae Sot and Sop Moei to Mae Sariang. Average journey times are around the five-hour mark. Songthaews serving this route are painted orange. Songthaew is also an option for travel to and from Mae Sam Laep, Khun Yuam and mountain villages.

CAR OR MOTORCYCLE

Hiring a car or motorcycle and travelling the Mae Hong Son Loop is an adventure in itself. Using self-drive transportation gives the option of stopping as you wish as well. Mae Sariang is four hours at most from Chiang Mai or Mae Hong Son and is a handy stopover point. Route 108 is in a good state of repair, but the 240km-long Route 105 from Mae Sot tends to develop potholes and bumps in the rainy season.

BICYCLE

Central Mae Sariang is a relatively compact area which can easily be explored on foot, but bicycles provide that extra convenience and also the means of venturing farther afield. A few of the guesthouses offer bicycle hire services.
