The 2018 edition of Chiang Rai’s famous balloon festival is due for an auspicious launch on Valentine’s Day. The fiesta will run between the 14 and 18 February and feature 35 balloons. The venue for the International Balloon Fiesta 2018 is Singha Park. The organisers, Flying Media Thailand, say balloons and their pilots will be coming from 16 different nations and these include the UK, Brazil, Australia and Thailand.
The fiesta is not limited to daytime entertainment as the organisers say the Balloon Magic Night Glow will add an extra dimension to the proceedings. As is the norm for events in Thailand, visitors will be able to sample a varied selection of food and drinks while listening to live bands. Food is being provided by 60 restaurants.
Singha Park is owned by the company which makes Thailand’s Singha Beer. The park is spread over 237 acres of hilly terrain 14kms to the southwest of central Chiang Rai. It is only a few minutes’ drive from Wat Rong Khun, AKA the White Temple.
Singha Park is a working tea plantation and also features fruit and vegetable zones, a zip-line and nine-storey tower, Swan Lake and a small zoo. A park tour aboard a trolley-bus is an easy option to take in most of the sights.
