Chiang Mai’s newest shopping and lifestyle centre is busy preparing to stage a festival dedicated to durians and other delicious Thai fruits. The city’s Central Festival Mall is the venue for the Northern Thailand edition of the 2017 Amazing Durian and Fruit Festival.
Fans of the smelly fruit will be able to savour it in all its glory five times a day for a week from tomorrow. In addition to durians, fruit fans will able to sample the likes of rambutans, lychees, mangoes and mangosteens. These fruits are in season at this time of year and are guaranteed to be fresh and succulent.
Lush watermelons, bananas and the other members of Thailand’s diverse and exotic fruit portfolio will also be on the eat-as-much-as-you-can buffet tables. The likes of traditional coconut ice-cream plus sticky rice with mango and cream add to the alluring options for festival visitors.
The durian fest is being staged in Central’s food hall and TOPS supermarket between the 7 and 13 June 2017. Dining hours are 11:00-12:30, 13:00-14:30, 15:00-16:30, 17:00-18:30 and 19:00-20:30. Advance tickets for the festival are available online from Ticketmelon and are priced at THB499 per person.
