The 2018 Samoeng Strawberry Festival is scheduled to take place this coming weekend. The 17th festival is set to be the usual celebration of strawberries with highlights of parades, beauty pageants, cultural and fun activities, and a market. The Thai News Agency has released a programme giving a timetable of the main festival happenings.
On Friday, a strawberry parade, wooden go-kart and enduro bike races, and shows performed by hill tribes and youngsters are the chief events. Saturday will see various exhibitions, a Miss Strawberry Queen Competition, muay Thai boxing shows and the chance of joining in with ram-wong Thai dancing. Sunday follows a similar timetable to Sunday with entertainment in the afternoon and the evening.
Throughout the three days of the festival, the open area around Samoeng District Office will be a market zone at which visitors will be able to purchase strawberries and OTOP handicrafts and souvenirs. The Samoeng Strawberry Festival starts on Friday 9 and ends on Sunday 11 February. Samoeng is in the middle of the Chiang Mai Samoeng Loop and can be reached via Highway 1096 from the Mae Sa Valley or Highway 1269 near Royal Park Rajapruek.
