Thai AirAsia has confirmed it will relaunch Chiang Mai to Ubon Ratchathani flights in less than two weeks’ time. The cross-country route between the two locations is due to start again on Friday 23 June 2017. The date is a little over four years since Thai AirAsia scrapped the route and claimed not enough passengers used it.
The airline added the flights to its ticket reservations website several weeks ago. The launch was marked with a promotional fare of THB690 for a one-way trip. Thai AirAsia is planning to utilise its Airbus A320 fleet for the 90-minute flights. Outbound flights from Chiang Mai will leave at 12:05 and the return leg from Ubon Ratchathani at 17:05.
Santisuk Klongchaiy is the commercial director for Thai AirAsia. He told reporters the new route would offer ease when travelling between the two key Thai cities. He continued by saying the route would help spur domestic tourism. Tourism industry analysts say Ubon Ratchathani is not far from the border with Laos and the flights will offer an easy link between there and Chiang Mai.
