Earlier this month, Thai boutique airline Bangkok Airways announced it was preparing to inaugurate two new new flight routes from the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. The first route to the southern seaside town of Krabi will launch on the 31st March. Flights on the second route to Luang Prabang in Laos will start two days later, the 2nd of April.
Chiang Mai to Krabi flights will be one-way only and will initially operate three days per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. From the 29th April, the service will be daily, although still one-way. Departure time from Chiang Mai is 12:00 and arrival at Krabi Airport is 13:55.
Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with scheduled takeoff times of 16:30hrs. Flights will land at Luang Prabang Airport at 17:45. Return services will leave Luang Prabang at 18:30hrs and arrive back in Chiang Mai at 19:45. Bangkok Airways has started taking reservations for both routes and these are available on the airline’s website.
The new Bangkok Airways’ routes are already served by other airlines but, as air industry professionals are fond of saying, additional choices promote healthy competition and this is a win-win for consumers. Thai AirAsia offers daily service between Chiang Mai and Krabi while Lao Airlines operates return flights to and from Luang Prabang four days a week.
