Teacher’s day or Wan Wai Kru is a Thai ritual which dates back hundreds of years. It’s celebrated annually on January 16th and considered as a school holiday.
Thai people believe that any field of work will have a teacher such as actors, magician, and boxers. Therefore, there’s a Wai Kru Ceremony to worship to the teachers or educators. It’s also a day for students to pay respect to their teachers to strengthen unity among them.
The religious activities on Wan Wai Kru include a Buddhist chanting, food offering to the monks and a speech giving by head teachers.
