Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet will launch a new route to Chiang Mai on the 12 December. The service from Ho Chi Minh City will operate four times weekly in each direction. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the outbound Vietjet Flight Number VJ891 from Ho Chi Minh will depart at 11:35 and land in Chiang Mai at 13:30. The return flights on these two days will take off at 14:20 and land back at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh 16:25.
On the other two operational days the flight times are slightly earlier. On Fridays and Sundays, VJ891 from Ho Chi Minh will leave at 10:25 and the return one from Chiang Mai at 13:40. Flight durations of about two hours are the same as Tuesdays and Thursdays because there is no time difference between Vietnam and Thailand.
A look at Vietjet’s online reservations webpages reveals plenty of seat availability for the first couple of weeks of operations. There are a few Promo class fares available, but most have sold out. Even opting for an Eco fare, a round-trip ticket between Chiang Mai and Ho Chi Minh City is only a little over THB3,000.
Three days after the launch of the Chiang Mai route, Vietjet will inaugurate a four times weekly route between Ho Chi Minh and the southern Thai holiday isle of Phuket. Once the two new services are operating, Vietjet will be flying six international routes between Vietnam and Thailand.
